Do I need to tell my travel insurance company I’m pregnant?
You won’t need to declare your pregnancy to us, as you would with a medical condition. If you were to have a complication in your pregnancy while you are away, we would cover your medical expenses.
Does pregnancy count as a medical condition?
Pregnancy is not a medical condition and does not need to be declared to us.
Before you travel – what do I need to do?
Please make sure that your medical practitioner and midwife are aware of your travel plans, that there are no known complications and that you are not travelling against any medical advice. If you make a claim, we have the right to request a medical certificate to confirm this.
You may decide to travel until you are quite late into your pregnancy. Airlines and ferry/shipping companies including cruise liners have their own restrictions due to health and safety requirements – so please check with them or any other mode of transport you propose to take before you book.
Can I cancel my trip?
If you need to cancel your trip your Columbus travel insurance policy will cover you for cancellation costs if you didn’t know you were pregnant when you booked your trip (or when you bought your insurance – whichever is later) and you have either had a complication in your pregnancy before you’re due to travel, or your return date is within 12 weeks of the baby’s due date.
Don’t forget…
Once your baby has arrived, let us know before you next travel and we can include them on your policy at no extra cost – children under 2 are covered free on Columbus policies!
