Does my travel insurance cover me if my airline or tour operator goes bust?

Am I covered if my airline goes bust?

Our Bronze, Silver and Gold Single Trip and Annual Multi Trip policies include Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance.

Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance provides cover for irrecoverable costs if your airline becomes insolvent before you travel and also additional costs to come home if the airline becomes insolvent whilst you are away.

This cover is provided on the basis that the prospect of the airline’s insolvency was not known at the time of booking your flight or your insurance policy (whichever is the later).

For full terms and conditions, or if you need to claim under this part of your policy, please check the reverse of your travel insurance policy schedule for details.

Am I covered if my tour operator goes bust?

Bankruptcy or liquidation of tour operators or travel agents is not covered under the terms of your insurance policy.

This is because you would usually be able to make a claim under the ATOL scheme via the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) – they can help with reimbursement for your trip, or help to get you home if you are stranded abroad.

More information can be found on the ATOL website here: www.atol.org.uk/
